Two hardworking, Sele residents have been announced as the East Herts Green Party’s candidates in the Hertford Town Council by-election, taking place on Thursday 10th July.
Drew Waller-Downes and Sarah Aldridge will be standing in the Sele by-election, which is taking place following the resignation of two Labour Hertford Town Councillors just days after the Hertfordshire County Council elections in May.
Sarah Aldridge has lived in Sele for over a decade and works in marketing. She said: “I’ve always cared deeply about the environment and social equality. We really love living here, our children attend school in Sele and as we regularly use local facilities like shops, playgrounds and the community centre, I understand the impact when things aren’t right or need improvement. One of my aims is to restore access to Long Wood.”
Drew Waller-Downes grew up in Hertford, lives in Sele and works as a data scientist. He said: “I am driven by helping people. Becoming a Green councillor in Sele would give me the opportunity to do this through supporting our local community and adding my voice to those of Hertford’s other Green councillors. I believe everyone deserves to be heard, and everyone deserves respect.”

Hertford Town Council is the closest level of government to the people of Hertford, running free events like Rock at the Castle, giving grants to organisations like Hertford Pantry and Sele Community Centre, supporting local businesses, looking after allotments and play areas, and offering residents free advice on things like reducing energy bills.
As longstanding Sele residents, Sarah and Drew understand the local challenges, know what it’s like to have young families and care deeply about the issues facing the community. They are determined to continue the hard work of the Greens on Hertford Town Council by representing the community with energy, enthusiasm, integrity and compassion.
A vote for Sarah and Drew will ensure that they join a team that already works hard for Hertford, campaigning for better policing and cleaner, greener, safer streets, for local facilities and improved walking, cycling and bus routes. As Greens, they’re never told how to vote by party bosses so they can always stand up for you, providing the strong independent voice that Sele residents deserve.
Only the Greens are strong enough in Sele to keep the Conservatives and Reform out.
The East Herts Green Party works hard to make a positive difference and build a fairer, greener community. We listen to your views to ensure our community gets the right services in a time of scarce resources.
Local Greens stand up for social, economic and environmental justice, and believe fair is worth fighting for.
The by-election takes place on Thursday 10th July. polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm. Photo ID is required.
