WARE’S GREEN COUNCILLORS LAUNCH COMMUNITY TOOL AND EQUIPMENT LIBRARY

Green councillors on Ware Town Council are launching ‘Ware Shares’, a community service enabling people from the local area to borrow DIY, garden and leisure equipment rather than buying them.

Ware Shares will help local people save money by enabling them to borrow a tool for a small fee rather than buying it. It will also help save space by freeing up peoples’ cupboards and sheds with tools collecting dust. And, it will help fight climate change by reducing waste and emissions from the manufacture and disposal of tools that can instead be borrowed.

Ware Shares will be powered by the software and experienced setup of Library of Things. They have been loaning tools across London for the last 10 years.

Councillor Kirsty Taylor-Moran from Ware Town Council has been instrumental in setting up Ware Shares.

Kirsty said: “As a Green Party councillor it is so important that we help local residents fight climate change. Ware Shares will help residents do just this while also saving money.

“As Green councillors we are so pleased that this project is now coming to fruition. It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of local councillors and officers, including the Ware Town Council’s hardworking Climate and Biodiversity Officer, who has managed this project in challenging circumstances so skilfully.”

Tools will be available to book online and collect from the Ware Shares lockers at Wodson Park, for use at home with clear and simple user guides. The tools can be returned to the lockers at the end of the hire period.

Ware Shares is an initiative of Ware Town Council, with the kind support of Wodson Park Sports & Leisure Centre. The rental platform is thanks to the clever tech from Library of Things. Together, we’re building a more sustainable, affordable future to Ware and surrounding areas.
