Self builders Lydia and Robert Somerville are once again inviting members of the public to view their fascinating Eco House, beautiful wild flower meadows and attractive gardens. Visitors will be able to enjoy tea and home-made cakes, live music, games and children's games – there will be something for all ages. Information will be available for anyone interested in finding ways of living more lightly on our planet, and money raised will go to East Hertfordshire Green Party.
If you are curious to know more about what low carbon living looks like come to the Open Eco House and Garden event on Saturday 27 August from 2.30- 5.30 pm, Thrift Cottage, 52A Burnham Green Road, Datchworth, AL6 0NJ.
Features include a turf roof, solar hot water and electricity, a compost toilet, grey water treatment, and natural ventilation. All the building materials have been chosen for their minimum impact on the environment. Lydia and Robert also keep a small number of livestock, including hens and sheep, and the gardens include a large pond and summerhouse.
